2. Actually funny. Or at least funny to someone who calls their dog “sir”.
3. Nothing that hurts dogs. No gag shock collars, no “joke” prong accessories, no novelty spray bottles. Pain isn’t a punchline. If you want to know why, start with the shock collar research.

For the Human Who Is Mostly Dog Hair Now

The SOXOS Classic Pet Face Socks are made to order at the company’s Toronto warehouse. You upload a photo, approve a design, and your friend gets to wear their dog’s face on their feet. The page lists one to four faces per pair, 14 sock colours and a gift box. SOXOS also says pet sock purchases support the charity Save Our Scruff.

For damage control, the ChomChom Roller is a reusable fur remover with a built-in collection chamber and no sticky sheets. It’s not a joke gift so much as a cry for help, in roller form.

The best gift for a dog person is anything that admits the dog is in charge.

For the Coffee-and-Wine Crowd

Two classics from Amazon.ca, each in stock when we checked:

• The “Fetch This” mug. An 11 oz mug, printed on both sides. The listing says it’s “designed exclusively in Canada”. It’s for mornings when they’d rather be throwing a ball.
• The “Dogs & Wine Make Life Better” glass. A 15 oz stemless glass that ships boxed. For evenings with a blanket and a dog lying on the blanket.

Obvious but important: the wine is for the human.

For the Dog (Which Is Really for the Human)

Watching a dog unwrap a squeaky thing is peak entertainment. These all come from Canadian retailer pages:

• Tim Pawtons. A plush, squeaky parody coffee cup from Pawty Animals, a Canadian shop. It’s made from recycled materials and ships in biodegradable packaging. The tagline promises it’s “double-double the fun”. Listed as limited supply, so don’t leave it to Christmas Eve.
• HugSmart Bento Box. A plush bento box with three rice balls your dog has to paw and burrow out. Lunch, but make it a puzzle.
• ZippyPaws Popcorn Bucket. Three squeaky popcorn pieces in a plush bucket, for digging and foraging. Movie night for dogs who don’t care about the movie.
• Growl Ava the Avocado. Three squeakers in one avocado, at $9.99. A gift for the dog and a test of the owner’s patience.

The toy makers all ask for supervised play and for toys to be binned when damaged. Pass that note on with the gift wrap.

For the Friend Who Thinks Their Dog Is a Genius
